#neuroscience is a channel (aka, "chan", or "chat room") on the good'ol Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network, a text-based ancestor to today's instant messaging apps. It is hosted on the freenode network, which is dedicated to free and open source software. As you can see from our stats, the chan is usually populated by about 30 people. Most, but not all of us, are academics working on various topics in neuroscience. We're very passionate about neuroscience, and discuss all kinds of topics, from funding opportunities and conferences to modelling techniques of 5HTa polymorphism or MRI analysis methods.
